Spengler's Spirit Guide Cover by T-RexJones Spengler's Spirit Guide Cover by T-RexJones
Okay, here's something I think you guys might dig. I put this together when I was batting around ideas for the Tobin's Spirit Guide thing after the overwhelming response I got from everyone about pursuing it as an actual book. I did this as a mock up in case the opportunity to pitch it ever came up. It didn't, but it DID lead to something much cooler, and you'll see it in September ;)

I based it loosely on the Spengler's Spirit Guide from Extreme Ghostbusters.

IMPORTANT:
PLEASE DO NOT READ INTO THE IDW LOGO! I put that in there as a placeholder -- at the time I was putting this together, IDW were the only group I knew of that were publishing any Ghostbusters material. I'm sure there are others, but as most of you know by now, I'm doing some work with IDW on their Ghostbusters comics with Dan, Erik, Luis and Tom. It IS NOT RELATED to this in any way, and if the opportunity presents itself at some point in the future, I will definitely look into it. I appreciate people digging it, but I think you'll all dig what's cooking MUCH more, so sit tight :)

You know the weirdest thing about this cover that I love?

You kind of made YOURSELF into a Ghostbusters character.

It conjures mental images of Tobin and Spengler sending "Tristan Jones" ghostly images captured on spirit cameras, as well as detailed descriptions. You send them your sketches, they make sure "yes, that's about what it looked like," working to make sure that quivering monstrosity has exactly the right number of eyes and tentacles and tooth-filled mouths.

And those are just the occasions when you weren't able to draw from life. Can you imagine following some GB team into the field, them with their gear, you with your sketchbook, just getting down the details of the monster before it's trapped? No one ever said the work of a paranormal illustrator was safe! But that's what makes you the best! That's what brought you to the attention of Tobin, and why Spengler, when he was assembling his own book, knew who he wanted to work with.

I'd still empty my wallet in a heartbeat. My only question would be how many copies I should buy - one to keep sealed up in mint condition, one to read, one to highlight and bookmark the shit out of... at least three.

That isn't you, is it David?

Totally let IDW know! If there's enough demand for it, they might be able to look into it. Make a great thing for next year's 30th Anniversary of Ghostbusters!
